Where are the best foreign exchange rates?

Exchanging one currency for another will always involve paying a small transaction fee for the service. Minimizing this fee is what travellers ideally look for during currency exchange as it allows them to keep more of their money. By evaluating foreign exchange markets, you can understand what your money is really worth in terms of another currency. You can prevent pesky fees and stretch your money further during your next trip.

The only way a traveller can know for sure if he or she is receiving the best exchange rate is by knowing the exact rate of exchange between the two currencies. Keeping a check on what’s happing in the forex market is the best way to obtain updated and accurate information. There are many online sites that specialize in this trade which not only allow customers to do currency exchange, but also allow them to transfer money and trade numerous currencies. These sites won’t actually send you physical paper money in exchange for what ever currency you use, but they will buy other currencies for the sake of value. People buy different currencies if they think that one currency is going to gain value against another. These sites will not only give you the best foreign exchange rates, but they will provide all the information for you to decide on who has the best rates. The sites can also quote major currencies in a grid format allowing people to compare any two of the currencies.

Once you know for sure the value of your currency in relation to the desired currency, you can then easily decide if an exchange rate being offered to you is good or not. To begin with, the best foreign exchange rates will be given to customers who are buying foreign currency with their debit or credit card. Debit and credit transactions are usually 2% to 5% lower in rate compared to using cash or checks for currency exchange. You should use your credit card when ever possible to receive the best foreign exchange rates.

Banks and post offices will usually offer foreign exchange at very decent rates. Sometimes hotels will offer a convenient way to exchange currencies, but be careful, as hotels usually charge small fees that banks and postal carriers would not charge from their customers. The worst foreign exchange rates will come from the change bureaus that are located in airports and train stations. These exchange bureaus will usually try to take advantage of the traveller’s urgent currency requirements by giving them less than the true value of the currency.
